Movie Banned In Multiple Countries Due To Extremely Graphic Sex Scenes Has Been Added To Netflix

A film notorious for its graphic and unsimulated sex scenes, which led to it being banned in several countries, is now available on Netflix.

This film, originating from India, was first released in 2010 but was initially blocked from being shown in its own country.

Interestingly, 2010 seems to have been a year marked by controversial cinema, with another provocative film, “A Serbian Film,” also debuting that year, continuing to spark discussions even today.

Now, 14 years later, both films still capture the public’s interest and have generally received favorable reviews from critics.

The film features numerous taboo subject mattersNetflix

The film in question was directed by Qaushiq Mukherjee, often just called ‘Q’.

He envisioned creating an abstract, black-and-white film where sexual elements play a crucial role in the narrative.

However, this film isn’t about simulated acts typical of mainstream Hollywood, where everything is staged, shot from various angles, and then cleverly edited to appear real.

Instead, Q aimed for complete authenticity in his film, asserting that two actors actually engaged in real unsimulated sex during the shooting, integral to the film’s plot.

This approach garnered significant controversy upon its release, leading to instances where audience members chose to walk out during screenings.

The title of the film is “Gandu,” which translates to ‘a******e’ in English.

It follows the turbulent life of a teenage rapper who resorts to stealing from his mother’s lover to support his drug habit, all while trying to carve out a space for himself in the music industry.

There are several ‘unsimulated’ sex scenes in GanduNetflix

The film features numerous explicit scenes between Gandu’s mother, played by Kamalika Banerjee, and her lover, portrayed by Silajit Majumder, which the protagonist, Gandu, portrayed by Anubrata Basu, inadvertently witnesses.

In one of the film’s most controversial moments, Basu appears with a fully erect penis in a scene with co-star Rii Sen, where, according to Q, the actors engaged in actual intercourse.

At the 2011 Slamdance Festival, the director commented on the chemistry between the actors, noting they were “good friends” who embraced the spirit of their favorite extreme films, such as “The Idiots,” as highlighted in a review by Hammer to Nail.

Additionally, the film includes a scene where Sen mimics a kitten, drinking milk from a bowl.

The movie doesn’t shy away from explicit language either, with a range of swear words including ‘c***’, ‘f**k’, and ‘p***y’.

The abstract film has some graphic scenes and it took years for it to be approved to be shown in IndiaNetflix

Despite its controversial content, “Gandu” holds a rating of 18 in the UK and faced significant taboos in India, not receiving a screening there until July 2021 at the Osian Film Festival.

Critics, however, have largely praised the film, which enjoys a respectable 68 percent rating on the review aggregation site Rotten Tomatoes.

“Gandu” is now streaming on Netflix.

The film is called Gandu, which translates to ‘a******e’, and the story follows a frustrated teenage rapper who steals from his mother’s lover to fund his love for drugs, all while trying to make it in the music industry.
