Fans will be hoping for some answers.
The BBC has announced that a much-loved legal drama which starred Stephen Mangan and Nicola Walker could return to our screens for the first time in two years.
The third and final season of The Split aired in 2022, and ended with a major cliffhanger that sent fans into meltdown.
Now a new two-part special has been teased which will see the Defoe family come back for more theatrics.
The show follows the lives of three sisters in and out of the courtroom as they represented clients going through divorces and also dealt with their own private heartbreak.
Fans were especially wrapped up in the storyline of Hannah and Nathan, played by Walker and Mangan, who had been married for 20 years and seemed to be one of the few rock solid couples in the show until infidelities on both sides led to a painful split.
Writer and creator of The Split, Abi Morgan, shared an photograph on Instagram which featured actors Annabel Scholey, Nicola Walker and Fiona Button holding a clapperboard with the words ‘The Split Barcelona’ written on it.
In the caption, Morgan wrote: “‘In a world of brutal break ups and tantalising make ups, the Defoe family are invited to a destination wedding of their own, promising all that audiences have grown to love about The Split.
‘Problematic prenups, scandalous wedding crashers, and low flying marriage proposals, as rom com meets gone wrong, in a chaotic and riotous weekend that guarantees to crack open the heart, before the last of the guests have gone home.’ Cameras rolling.”

The Emmy and BAFTA winning writer released a press statement through the BBC in which she detailed that the show will return for a two-part special that will see the Defoe family head to Barcelona for a wedding.
Amongst a host of new characters including Toby Stephens (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Black Sails) as Archie Moore, cast confirmed to return for the Spanish extravaganza include Nicola Walker, Stephen Mangan, Annabel Scholey, Fiona Button, Deborah Findlay, Ian McElhinney, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Elizabeth Roberts and Alex Guersman.
Fans shared their delight at the news in the comments section of the post.
One wrote: “Oh my, I can’t wait!”
Another commented: “Sooooo exciting!!!! I still think about The Split at least once a day.”
One other person referenced the Gavin and Stacey finale announcement, which was made by the show’s creators James Corden and Ruth Jones earlier this week.
They wrote: “Omg between this and Gavin and Stacey…day made!”
Corden and Jones shared an Instagram post together along with the caption: “Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”
Speculation about a special has been doing the rounds in recent months although many of the cast members played down the reports, suggesting that they were hopefully of there being one rather than already knowing it was happening.
