As previously reported, the 46-year-old was found unresponsive at his home in Brislington, Bristol, on January 15 and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A subsequent inquest into Danan’s death was opened and adjourned at Avon Coroner’s Court on Tuesday, where Coroner’s Officer Alexis Camp confirmed that the actor’s body was identified at the scene by his partner, Melissa Crooks, per Sky News.

“The circumstances are that Mr. Danan was found unresponsive at his home address. Emergency services attended and confirmed he had sadly died,” Camp told the hearing.

During the inquest, it was also revealed that the former Hollyoaks actor and reality TV personality died from a fatal cocktail of drugs — including heroin and cocaine, an inquest has heard, The Guardian reports.

A postmortem examination found that Danan’s provisional cause of death was combined toxicity of heroin, methadone, codeine, pregabalin, cocaine, and zopiclone, with benzodiazepine use also contributing.

Legal Troubles and Personal Struggles

At the time of his death, Danan was facing legal issues.

He had been due in Warrington Magistrates’ Court on January 16 — the day after he died — for a plea hearing after being charged with possession of cocaine and cannabis. He was also accused of driving under the influence of drugs in October last year.

Despite his struggles, Danan had been open about his battle with addiction and had sought help through rehabilitation in the past.

The actor was open with fans about his battle with nicotine addition. Although he had quit cigarettes, Danan admitted to becoming “obsessed” with disposable vapes.

“I was dead — it’s a miracle I’m here,” he previously told The Sun on Sunday. “I’m upstairs puffing away on my vape then suddenly I lost my breath and collapsed.”

“The doctor was so, so harsh with me,” Danan continued. “She told me, ‘Paul, you don’t know how serious this was and you are going to be in here for a while now, on this oxygen’.

“She said if I ever smoke in any form again I risk being linked to an oxygen tank later on in life. She said that’s it now.

“After years of smoking cigarettes and all sorts, it’s the vaping which has done me in. That pushed me over the edge.”

Inquest Investigation Ongoing

The coroner confirmed that statements would be taken from Danan’s GP, family, police, and ambulance service, with additional inquiries continuing with Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust.

Camp noted that no note was left behind and added: “I understand there are no family concerns.”

The full inquest hearing is provisionally scheduled for May 28, when more details surrounding Danan’s passing are expected to be revealed.

Danan rose to fame in the late 1990s, playing Sol Patrick in Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001.

He later became a reality TV staple, appearing on Celebrity Love Island and Celebrity Big Brother, where his larger-than-life personality made him a fan favorite.

Our thoughts continue to go out to Danan’s family, friends, and fans at this time.
