‘Harry Potter’ star dies aged 63

Simon Fisher-Becker has died at the age of 63, his husband and manager have confirmed.

The actor, who was best known for roles in Harry Potter and TV series Doctor Who passed away on Sunday, March 9.

Hi husband, Tony, shared the news on Fisher-Becker’s Facebook page, writing: “Hello everyone. This is Tony, Simon’s husband. I have some very sad news. At 2:50 this afternoon Simon passed away.

“I’ll be keeping this account open for a while. I’m not sure at this point if I’ll be posting again. Thank you.”

Fisher-Becker’s manager, Kim Barry of Jaffrey Management, also shared a statement to the New York Post, saying: “Today I lost not only a client in Simon Fisher-Becker, but a close personal friend of 15 years standing.

“I shall never forget the phone call I made to him when he was offered the part of Dorium Moldovar in BBC’s Doctor Who.

“Simon was also a writer, a raconteur, and a great public speaker. He helped me out enormously and was kind, gracious, and interested in everyone.

“My condolences go to his husband Tony, his brother, nieces and nephews, and his legion of fans.”

Though Fisher-Becker had a wealth of television and film credits, he was best known for playing the Fat Friar ghost in 2001’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

The character was the president ghost of Hufflepuff House and won him a legion of fans.

Fisher-Becker was also known for his role as Dorium Maldovar in Seasons 5 and 6 of TV series Doctor Who, reprising the role in the podcast series Doctor Who: The Eleventh Doctor Chronicles and Jenny — The Doctor’s Daughter.

He also starred in several other hit British television series including Afterlife, One Foot In The Grave, and The Bill.

Fisher-Becker also appeared in the Oscar-winning 2012 movie, Les Misérables.

Fans soon flooded the comments with their condolences, writing: “I’m so sorry for your loss Tony. He was a super man and a great talent . Fly high Simon Fisher-Becker.”

Others added: “No no, I’m so very sorry, my love and prayers to you x he will be greatly missed and was hugely loved,” and: “So sorry for your loss, he was a great person, very sad.”

One fan commented: “Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear of his passing. Simon was definitely a special person. I don’t know if any other celebrity who is so close with their fans. He was always the first to send me a birthday greeting on FB. He will definitely be missed. Prayers for all his friends and family.”
