A remarkable woman with Down syndrome has silenced her critics by graduating from law school, making her the first lawyer with this condition in her city, and potentially in all of Latin America.
Earlier this year, Ana Victoria Espino De Santiago proudly earned her law degree from Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas in Mexico.
As you can imagine, navigating law school is quite challenging, and the hurdles become even greater when learning difficulties are involved.
However, Ana Victoria not only proved her doubters wrong by graduating but is also aiming for an even more ambitious goal that is just as inspiring.
At 25 years old and hailing from Guadalupe, Zacatecas, she received her law degree in July and is believed to be the first qualified lawyer with Down syndrome in her region, possibly throughout Latin America.
“I have a passion for law because I want to defend the rights of people with disabilities and advocate for my own rights,” Ana shared with NTR TV.
“I want to assist those with disabilities and give a voice to those who are unheard, which is why I chose to become a lawyer.”
While her journey has been incredibly inspiring, Ana Victoria has also hinted at a future in politics.
She expressed, “I envision myself as a local representative. I am passionate about the law and want to create opportunities for all individuals with disabilities to hold decision-making roles, as our condition does not diminish our voice, will, or ability to contribute positively to our community.”
Unsurprisingly, many people online have been moved by Ana Victoria’s story, with numerous messages of support flooding social media for her future endeavors.
Let’s all join in congratulating Ana Victoria! Feel free to leave your well wishes in the comments section on Facebook.
