The Hollywood actress turned up at The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday to discuss her role as Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s film, Maria – but there’s one thing that the host had to get out of the way first.
“I noticed that you’re barefoot,” Fallon told Jolie as she sat next to his iconic desk. “Did you forget your shoes?”
However, the 49-year-old’s response shocked everyone.

She responded saying: “No, I broke my toe yesterday, and I tried to find a comfortable shoe, but I just decided to not.”
She also addressed the fact that she’s not been on a talk show in a long time.
“By the way, I get very nervous on talk shows,” she told the host. “I get very uncomfortable, and I haven’t done one for, like, a decade. This is so not my thing.”
However, the star embraced the conversation, delving into a handful of topics including her latest movie and her children.
When questioned whether any of her six children – Shiloh, Knox, Pax, Vivienne, Zahara, and Maddox, whom she shares with her ex-husband Brad Pitt – would be joining their mother in the entertainment industry, she responded: “I think some of them [want to work] off-camera, behind the scenes, but they really, really want to be – especially Shiloh – they want to be private.”
“Just private, not photographed, not on the thing. I think, her most of all, would like privacy,” she continued. “It just must get so tricky, because everyone’s famous. But it wasn’t their choice.’
“So some people are more comfortable with public, some people are more comfortable with talk shows,” she added.

Elsewhere during the interview, the star was also questioned about her unique choice of back-up career if acting didn’t work out.
“Is it true that prior to acting you were studying to become a funeral director?” Fallon asked.
“Yes,” Jolie confirmed. “Doesn’t it make sense though?”
She went on to explain her thoughts about the idea of mourning someone when they’ve passed away.
“My grandfather died, and I remember thinking this is not how they should be,” she said. “This should be a celebration of life. And since I’m not afraid of death and I was comfortable with it, I thought: ‘This would be a great career path for me. … I could, like, make this better. I could do a thing here.'”
“We need more people like that,’ Fallon replied, after hearing her anecdote.
Jolie added she still considers being a funeral director as her “fallback career” even to this day, though I’m sure she’ll remain successful doing what she knows best.

The actress’s latest project sees her take on the role of Maria to bring the story of a famed opera singer to life.
Maria Callas was an American-born Greek soprano hailed as one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century, and her legacy was certainly restored on the big screen through Jolie’s portrayal given the reaction at the Venice Film Festival.
Maria will hit selected theatres later this month as well as Netflix on December 11.
