Swalwell’s troubles increased in August when the FBI seized his cellphone and other electronic devices as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to sources cited by ABC News.

Agents reportedly served a search warrant at his home in Washington, D.C., after also obtaining his devices at San Francisco International Airport.

The investigation has added another serious challenge to a political career that was already under heavy pressure.

For years, Swalwell was a prominent Democratic figure in Washington and had ambitions for higher office.
