The tale of Louie is particularly distressing. He was cruelly betrayed by his own family and tossed off a bridge with his mouth taped shut to muffle his cries for help.
A Whimper For Help
On what turned out to be a fateful evening, Bob Hoelter from Griffith, Indiana, chose to walk to the local store instead of driving as he usually does.
What started as a routine walk quickly became a lifesaving mission when Hoelter heard faint whimpering sounds coming from below a bridge.
It was already dark out, making it difficult for Hoelter to spot the dog. Luckily, he had brought a flashlight along.
As he got closer, Hoelter was dismayed to see the puppy had its mouth sealed shut with electrical tape, which deeply upset him.
He scooped up the dog and rushed him to the Griffith Animal Hospital.
Stranger With A Big Heart
Dr. Lena Kovachich of Griffith Animal Hospital shared her side of the story too.
She immediately sprang into action when Bob arrived with the dog: “I was out of my chair and in the lobby to get him in seconds.”
The puppy was in terrible shape; the tape had been on his muzzle so long that his skin was severely irritated.
To help him recover, they also gave him stuffed animals and a cozy blanket for comfort.
Another Day, Another Twist
Initially, the vet staff thought they had the situation under control, but further examinations revealed the puppy also had a broken leg, which had been left untreated for too long.
Surgery was the only option.
Miraculously, the puppy survived this brutal act, though he was badly injured.
“A million things go through my mind, trying to absorb this. Bottom line, the evil person/people who are responsible will rot in hell. They already have no compassion, no heart, and are stewing in a miserable day-to-day life. Karma.”
Sweet Reunion And Furever Home
The puppy’s recovery went well, and he began to show his playful side at the hospital, quickly becoming a favorite among the staff.
Their posts on social media were instrumental in not only finding the dog’s rescuer but also securing him a new home.
They decided to visit the hospital to see the puppy before he went home with his new family.
It turns out Louie did remember; he joyfully ran to Hoelter and showered him with kisses and cuddles.
For any true dog lover, it’s unthinkable that someone could not only abandon but also deliberately harm such a sweet and tiny animal.
Thankfully, people like Bob Hoelter, Dr. Lena Kovachich, and the Wittings are there to help heal both physical and mental wounds.
