Liam Payne’s family issue statement following singer’s tragic death aged 31 The One Direction star passed away yesterday (October 16)

Liam Payne’s family have issued a statement following the death of the singer yesterday (October 16).

Police confirmed that Payne, 31, had died after falling from a third floor balcony at the CasaSur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He had suffered ‘injuries that were incompatible with life’, according to the head of the state emergency medical system, Alberto Crescenti.

When the ambulance arrived after an ‘alarm was raised’ at 5:04pm local time, a person was found in an ‘internal courtyard’ of the hotel, Crescenti continued, adding: “Later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group.”

He said that there was ‘no possibility of resuscitation’.

The family of former One Direction star have said they are ‘heartbroken’ by his death, adding in a statement that ‘Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul’.

“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.” they said.

Payne found national success when he auditioned on the UK singing competition X Factor and found international fame when he and fellow band mates, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan were joined together by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger to form One Direction back in 2010.

He pursued a solo career after the band decided to go into an indefinite hiatus in 2016, releasing ‘LP1’ in 2019.

The X Factor’s official Twitter account has also posted a tribute message to Payne, writing: “We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne.

“He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world. Our thoughts are with his friends, family and all who loved him.”

Singer and fellow X-Factor star, Olly Murs, also issued a tribute to the star as he reflected on their relationship.

“We always had a good laugh when we saw each other, sometimes the catch-ups were only short and sweet but when we did it was mostly about how annoyingly good his hair always looked, or our love for Becks, the old XF (X Factor) days and the tour we shared together.” he wrote on Instagram.

He said that Payne ‘shared the same passions as me, the same dreams’ and ‘to see his life now end so young hits hard’, adding that he was ‘truly gutted and devastated for his family’ and for his son Bear, who he shared with singer and former X-Factor judge, Cheryl, for ‘losing a dad’.
