Trump: “This Was Our Last Best Chance to Strike” — President Defends Iran Operation

President Donald Trump spoke publicly Monday about the escalating U.S. military campaign against Iran, saying the recent strikes represented the “last best chance” to confront what he described as an intolerable threat from Tehran.

Trump made the comments at the White House, where he acknowledged the deaths of U.S. service members and expressed sympathy for their families while warning that more casualties could occur as operations continue.

The president outlined several goals of the campaign, including degrading Iran’s missile capabilities, neutralizing its naval forces, and preventing it from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

He said the United States and Israel had begun combat operations that could last several weeks, but emphasized that the U.S. had the capacity to extend the effort if needed.

Trump called the Iranian regime “sick and sinister,” framing the offensive as necessary to eliminate threats to U.S. forces and allies in the region.

The strikes follow Iran’s response with missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases and Gulf partner nations after the joint operation reportedly killed senior Iranian leaders.

While the administration says the operation aims to secure U.S. interests, critics both at home and abroad have raised concerns about the legality and risks of expanded military action.

As conflict dynamics continue to shift, Trump reiterated that the United States will “do whatever it takes” to protect Americans and disrupt Iran’s strategic capabilities.
