Amid the Winter Olympics in Italy, several avalanches have claimed the lives of several people. The 2026 Winter Olympic Games have had their share of controversy and tragedies.
Earlier this month, several skiers were killed by avalanches in northern Italy while skiing. It happened in the same alpine region where the Olympics are taking place. Alpine rescue services recovered the body of a man from Punta Rocca, a 10,800-foot peak on Marmolada—the tallest mountain in the Dolomites. The three skiers died following two avalanches in Italy on Feb. 7.
Their deaths came days before Lindsey Vonn crashed and had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Shocking Footage of An Avalanche Has Social Media In Shock
Footage from somebody near an avalanche has social media going crazy. Multiple skiers lost their lives, and a third is in critical condition after being crushed by it in Italy. The three men were skiing off piste in the Val Veny, part of the Courmayeur ski resort in north-west Italy, per The Sun.
One skier died on the spot, while another died on the way to the hospital. The third man was seriously injured and was admitted to Le Molinette Hospital in Turin.
Footage from that moment shows people near a resort or village, not reacting to the danger coming their way.
“I’m convinced most people think they are watching a disaster happen on a screen. No sense of reality,” one person said.
“That’s exactly what I was thinking. And I’ve always said that there are 2 types of people in this world. Those with survival instincts and those without. I’m so sorry for the people who didn’t make it,” a second person added.
“I would be skiing as fast as I can to get away from there,” a third person wrote about seeing the avalanche.
“Modern man. These are the clowns who pet grizzly bears for selfies. And they aren’t even Americans, who everyone knows are famous for their modern cluelessness,” a fourth person commented.
The identities of the victims of that raging avalanche are yet to be disclosed.
