Grammy viewers were left stunned by Chappell Roan’s dress as she arrived on the red carpet in a topless gown, sparking debate over whether her outfit met event guidelines.
When it comes to celebrities and awards season, it’s safe to say there’s been some pretty unique outfits over the years – Lady Gaga‘s meat dress is just one that springs to mind.
There have also been several risqué looks, including Kanye West’s wife, Bianca Censori, as she walked the red carpet in a completely sheer nude slip dress just last year.

But it’s Chappell Roan who stunned viewers this year, after taking to the carpet wearing what some have described as an ‘extreme’ look.
2026 Grammy Awards controversy
The Grammys proved eventful, with several winners using their acceptance speeches to criticize the Trump administration’s deployment of ICE across multiple states.
One of the most vocal was Billie Eilish, who repeatedly criticized ICE during her speech.
She said: “As grateful as I feel, I honestly don’t feel like I need to say anything but that no one is illegal on stolen land.
“And, yeah, it’s just really hard to know what to say and what to do right now, and I feel really hopeful in this room, and I feel like we just need to keep fighting and speaking up and protesting, and our voices really do matter, and the people matter, and f*** ICE.
“That’s all I’m going to say. Sorry. Thank you so much.”
Another controversial moment unfolded when Cher stunned the audience by announcing a dead artist as the winner of Record of the Year.

Instead of announcing the song ‘Luther’ by Kendrick Lamar and SZA, she announced the late Luther Vandross as the winner of the award.
2026 Grammy Award winners
The biggest winners included Bad Bunny, who took home Album of the Year for ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos,’ making history as the first Spanish-language album to win the sought-after award.
Record of the Year went to Kendrick Lamar and SZA for their collaboration on ‘Luther,’ while Song of the Year was awarded to Billie Eilish and Finneas for ‘Wildflower.’
Olivia Dean was named Best New Artist, and Kendrick Lamar further dominated the night with additional wins, including Best Rap Album for GNX.

Reaction to Chappel Roan’s outfit
Roan’s dress has gone seriously viral, as some have questioned whether the gown even meets the event’s dress code guidelines.
“Kids are watching, disgusting,” one said.
“What was she thinking?” another asked.
A third person questioned: “Is this legal?”
“This should be a crime,” somebody else commented.
But others were a big fan of the revealing look.

One fan said: “My god, Chappell Roan’s dress. Goddess.”
Another stated: “Chappell Roan you will always be that girl.”
Others were more concerned about the practicalities of the outfit, as one user claimed: “For me, the most shocking thing is how uncomfortable it looks.”
Another said: “Hope no one trod on her dress, ouch.”
A third added: “There’s no way that dress from Chappell Roan doesn’t hurt.”
Others felt she had just taken things ‘way too far.’
Justin Bieber strips down at the Grammys
Roan wasn’t the only one who embraced the nude look at the Grammy Awards, as Justin Bieber performed his song ‘Yukon’ with little clothes on.
The star made his entrance in nothing but boxers and socks – and the bold choice proved to be a smart one.
The boxers Bieber sported for his Grammys performance yesterday (February 1) were in fact from his brand, Skylrk.
And the risqué move paid off, as the shorts sold out ‘just a few minutes after the performance,’ as per the New York Times.
The dress that sparked outrage
The conversation-starting red carpet look was designed by Mugler, and was paired with a matching cape.
The maroon chiffon dress appeared to be suspended from two nipple piercings.

But upon closer inspection, it was made known that prosthetics had been applied onto her chest, and instead, the piercings were not attached to her real nipples – understandably so.
But despite the outfit sparking debate, Roan made it onto numerous ‘Best-dressed’ lists from the awards.
