New details have emerged following the fatal accident involving Anthony Joshua on Monday.
The British boxer was one of the victims of a crash in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two people.
Videos of the 36-year-old being pulled from the wreckage have gone viral on social media. Joshua is said to have only suffered minor injuries, having been one of five males involved.
According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps, two others escaped unhurt. The two who perished have been identified.
Joshua was said to be “rescued alive and sustained minor injuries” and received medical attention at a local hospital.
Road Safety has also revealed that the SUV the boxer was on was traveling “beyond the legally prescribed speed limit.”
They add that the car lost control during an overtaking maneuver and crashed into a stationary truck on the side of the road.
Anthony Joshua Was Reportedly Unconscious After Collision

An eyewitness told the BBC the car struck a large truck, which was transporting soybeans but had broken down on the road the previous day.
Parts of the truck, including the tyres, were destroyed.
The witness said Joshua was in the vehicle for 10 minutes before bystanders called out to him and he regained consciousness.
An investigation is underway.
Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made a statement on the fatal collision, offering his condolences.
“This immense tragedy casts a deep shadow on this season. I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident,” he wrote via X.
He added:
“As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country. These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride. I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.”
