With the way the world is today, it’s hardly a surprise many people are forced to work their fingers to the bone just to get by.
You have probably heard a great deal about those individuals who attempt to exploit the system; the small minority who appear to navigate life without working, somehow managing to remain afloat by relying on the generosity of others.
However, for every ‘freeloader’, there exist hundreds of sincere, hardworking individuals who endeavor to make ends meet by dedicating their time and effort. Some of these individuals may face financial difficulties, yet they consistently show up, day after day, taking on as many hours as they can in an effort to support themselves.
If the reports are accurate, Bethany Provencher is one such person. A diligent single mother with an 11-year-old son, a few years ago she gathered their belongings and relocated to St. Charles, Illinois, seeking a new beginning after spending 18 years in Miami.
Bethany signed a lease for a new apartment in The Magic City and managed to secure employment at a local IHOP, thanks to her 25 years of experience in the customer service sector.
Nevertheless, she was aware that financial constraints were likely to persist for some time – by all accounts, she had been unable to adequately furnish her new apartment due to a lack of funds.
Then, one day near the end of the year, a celebrity couple entered the IHOP where Bethany was employed and took a seat in her section of the restaurant.
Bethany quickly recognized the man as none other than singer-songwriter Donnie Wahlberg, who was accompanied by his wife, Jenny McCarthy.
According to reports, Bethany could barely contain her excitement. New Kids on the Block, the band to which Donnie belonged, was one of her favorites, and she had always held a special admiration for Donnie himself.
Consequently, Bethany was thrilled to be serving him. What she did not realize was the profound impact that day would have on her life.
After Donnie and his family completed their lunch, the singer settled their bill of $35.27 and left a note for Bethany on the receipt. Accompanied by a hand-drawn smiley face, the note stated: “Thank you, Bethany, Happy New Year. 2020 Tip Challenge.”
Donnie is said to have requested that Bethany refrain from opening the receipt until he and his wife had departed from the IHOP. Bethany complied with his request, but was utterly astonished when she finally opened the receipt to discover that Donnie had generously left a tip amounting to $2,020!
