Nick Reiner was reportedly absent from the residence where the bodies of his parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, were found.
The 32-year-old Nick allegedly departed from his parents’ Brentwood residence and, according to reports, was located by authorities a short distance away near the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles.
Authorities apprehended Nick rather swiftly near the campus, where he was arrested on suspicion of murder at approximately 9:15 p.m. on Sunday.
In terms of confirmation, the Los Angeles Police Department verified his arrest to the media through their public information officer, stating, “the location of the suspect’s arrest was in the Exposition Park area near USC.”
Nick was identified as a suspect and taken into police custody just hours after the murders were uncovered. Reports indicate that the bodies were discovered around 3:40 p.m. on Sunday, and shortly thereafter, Nick was named as the suspect.
Nick Reiner is currently being detained without bail at the Twin Towers Jail in Los Angeles.
He is scheduled to appear in court today, December 16, 2025, as reported.
Sources indicate that the evening prior to the murders, Nick, along with Michelle and Rob Reiner, were seen at Conan O’Brien’s holiday gathering. Two attendees of the party reported that Nick and Rob engaged in a significant altercation.
“Nick was alarming everyone, behaving erratically, and repeatedly inquired if individuals were famous,” one source recounted.
Rob Reiner and Michele were married in 1989 and have three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob was previously wed to Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981, with whom he has a daughter, Tracy. The actor-turned-director later adopted Tracy during his marriage to Michele.
Nick had previously addressed his struggles with addiction and homelessness. In 2016, he disclosed to the media that he had been cycling in and out of rehabilitation since the age of 15. As his addiction worsened, he increasingly distanced himself from his family and lived on the streets in various conditions.
This entire situation is deeply regrettable. We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Rob and Michele Reiner. Please share this with others who wish to stay informed about the latest developments regarding this matter.
