Mummy Pat Webb, the star of Channel 4’s Gogglebox, has tragically died.
Gogglebox is a reality TV series that documents families and groups of friends in the UK as they observe and react to the previous week’s television from their homes.
Pat famously starred on the show alongside her son Stephen between series 10 and 12.
She’s remained a background figure on the show since then, and her hilarious relationship with Stephen continued to warm the hearts of viewers.
But sadly, this weekend, Stephen confirmed the death of his beloved mum aged 75.
The news of Pat’s passing was also shared by the official account of the hit Channel 4 show.
A statement reads: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox star Mummy Pat Webb passed away this weekend at the age of 75 after a long illness.
“Pat was a much-loved cast member on the show from series 10 -12 alongside her son Stephen.
“Mummy Pat will be remembered and missed by her children Stephen, Denise, Sharon, Beverley and the extended family.
“Our thoughts are with the family who have requested privacy at this sad time.”
Stephen himself took to Instagram to share an emotional tribute to Mummy Pat.
He wrote on Instagram: “Mummy Pat, you were one in a million, took everyone at face value, would share your last fiver with a stranger, the salt of the earth and the absolute centre of our world! Rest in peace mum.”
The comments section on both of these posts was quickly filled with sweet tributes to the TV personality.
One heartbroken fan writes: “Aw I loved your mum on Gogglebox you two were brilliant together, so very sorry to hear this sad news.”
“So sorry, she was so funny on Gogglebox, rest in peace Pat,” adds another.
“Oh Stephen your mum was hilarious, I am so so sorry for your loss, just remember she will always be with you,” somebody else agrees.
“So sorry for your loss, your mum had the best laugh,” says another.
Another echoes: “So sorry to read this sad news, RIP Mummy Pat.”
“Saddened to learn that Gogglebox star Pat Webb (Stephen’s mum) died over the weekend. She gave me many a chuckle on Friday night. May She Rest in Peace,” wrote someone else in a tribute on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Pat Webb’s cause of death has been confirmed as a ‘long illness’.
News of Pat’s passing follows the shock announcement last year that Stephen was leaving Gogglebox.
“After a brilliant and illustrious time on Gogglebox, Stephen and Daniel have decided that now is the right time to explore life beyond the sofa and leave the show,” said creators in a statement, as per The Sun.
Stephen was a star of the Gogglebox sofa for ten years, beginning his stint in September 2013.
During his time on the show, he was partnered up with his friend Chris Ashby-Steed, who abruptly left the show in 2018.
Stephen would then appear on the programme alongside his mum, before his husband, Daniel Lustig, joined the show in 2019.
