Toby Keith, the beloved country music star, shared a final heartbreaking Instagram post before his death.
Toby Keith Covel, known professionally as Toby Keith, was an absolute legend in the world of country music.
He was a singer, songwriter, and producer, and even made a foray into the world of acting.
Keith’s hits, including ‘Should’ve Been a Cowboy’, ‘How Do You Like Me Now?!’ and ‘Don’t Let The Old Man In’ made him a household name.
He enjoyed some major career achievements, such as 61 singles charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs and album sales totalling over 40 million.
But tragically, his family has announced that Keith has passed away.
And following the devastating news of his death, the icon’s haunting final social media post has gone viral.
Keith’s passing was announced through a statement by his family, which reads: “Toby Keith passed away peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family.
“He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time.”
Tributes from fans have flooded onto X (formerly known as Twitter), with one person penning: “Rest in peace and fly with the angels Toby.”
Another adds: “The world has lost a legend today.”
“Always loved him and I remember when he talked about his health, I guess my heart thought he’d beat this! Respect and love to one hell of a human!” pens a third.
Somebody else says: “We lost one of the best! USA is sad today.”
Keith shared in 2022 that he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer and that he was undergoing treatment.
“Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last six months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax,” the singer disclosed.
“I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait.”
When attending the People’s Choice Country Awards in 2023, Keith opened up about his battle in further detail.
“I feel pretty good,” he told E! News at the time. “It’s a little bit of a roller coaster. You get good days and, you know, you’re up and down, up and gown. It’s always zero to 60 and 60 to zero, but I feel good today.”
Following Keith’s passing, fans have taken to his Instagram page and have been left heartbroken by his final post.
The singer had shared a video of himself waving goodbye to a crowd from the stage.
Hauntingly, Keith captioned the image: “And that’s a wrap on the weekend, y’all. Back to it.”
People have taken to the comments and shared that this image has left them feeling devastated.
One writes: “I couldn’t imagine being in that crowd and waking up the next day realising you just saw him for the last time… devastating.”
Another adds: “The people watching this had no idea how lucky they were to be there…”
“It’s sad that it was his last show and nobody knew,” pens a third.
