Elon Musk Urges 226 Million Followers To Cancel Netflix As Boycott Trend Explodes
Whether the complaints are about a new feature, rising prices, or the company’s use of AI, it seems there is always a fresh reason for viewers to be upset.
This time, Elon Musk himself has joined the chorus. Posting on X, he told his massive audience of 226 million followers to cancel their Netflix subscriptions.
From there, he turned his focus onto Netflix, urging his followers to abandon the service.
His comments also arrived in the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s fatal shooting at Utah Valley University, a tragedy that quickly set off outrage within the MAGA community and redirected their anger toward the streaming platform.
Jimmy Kimmel faced a wave of criticism and temporary cancellation, and one university professor even faced calls for dismissal after calling Kirk a ‘nazi’.
An account appearing to belong to Steele posted a heated response to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s public condolences to Kirk’s family.
Steele allegedly wrote: “Why the f**k are you even commenting on this, d**khead. A random nazi gets shot, and it’s a public statement. You’re such a f**king evil sh*t.”
The clip also featured Norma, another lead character who is bisexual and autistic. Together, the scene became a lightning rod for critics who slammed the show as ‘woke’.
Combining Steele’s alleged comment about Kirk with the show’s LGBTQ+ characters, Musk boosted Libs of TikTok’s post and added his own caption: “This is not ok.”
Musk quickly replied with a short but clear response: “Same.”
Still, it’s worth noting that Dead End Paranormal Park had already been cancelled in 2023 after just two seasons.
Meanwhile, Steele shared his thoughts on BlueSky, saying the whole ordeal meant it was shaping up to be a ‘very odd day’.
He later added: “My Instagram comments are now flooded with replies saying I AM CHARLIE KIRK and that I celebrated his death (which I never did).”
Steele has long acknowledged Netflix’s backing of his show. Back in 2020, he praised the company for supporting its LGBTQ+ themes, noting there was “absolutely no pushback from Netflix” about including queer representation. He even suggested: “I think it was actually a key reason they wanted it.”
The current boycott calls also follow another flashpoint: outrage over Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings personally donating $2 million to California governor Gavin Newsom’s redistricting efforts.
But with Musk’s massive reach and 226 million followers, his call to action has the potential to influence a very large audience.
