Channing Tatum Opens Up About What It Was Really Like Filming A Nude Scene With Sandra Bullock

Being a Hollywood actor may sound glamorous, but it comes with its share of uncomfortable moments — especially when you have to film a nude scene surrounded by cameras and crew members.

Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock, two of Hollywood’s biggest stars, recently reflected on their experience filming one of the more revealing scenes in their 2022 action comedy, The Lost City.

During a recent appearance on First We Feast’s Hot Ones, Tatum opened up about working with Bullock and revealed what really went on behind the scenes of that unforgettable shoot.

Tatum recalled the moment he learned he would have to strip down for a key scene, which happened on only the second day of filming. It was not exactly what he expected when he first showed up to set.

He joked that it was definitely one way to get familiar with the entire crew so early in production, calling the whole situation “a fever dream.”

“Second day on set!” he exclaimed. “You know you have to walk onto set and you have to be like, ‘Hello everyone. My name’s Chan. I know we’ve only had really one more day, or one day to get to know each other.”

“So, you’re going to see my d*** today. We’re going to get to know each other very well. This is my d***. My name’s Chan. I’ll get to know your names later.’ “

Sandra Bullock also discussed the now-famous scene, describing how she had to remove fake leeches from Tatum’s bare backside while staying in character. It was far from glamorous, but she managed to keep her composure through the humor of it all.

She told Stephen Colbert she was “fully there. Full on face to face, with the, uh… landscape”.

“I had to spend some time down there, just making sure no leeches, and I had a lot to say to it. When you’re down there, you may as well just get to know it,” she added, laughing as she recalled the unusual filming experience.

During his Hot Ones interview, host Sean Evans asked Tatum if the rumors were true that the leech scene took “50 takes” because he couldn’t stop laughing. Tatum quickly corrected the story with a smile.

“It wasn’t 50 takes, but it was a lot, it was, weirdly, the second day of filming … I knew Sandy, we have kids the same age and we went to the same preschool and whatnot,” he said, explaining that while it wasn’t quite 50 takes, it was still one of the strangest days of his career.

The actor continued, saying “And Sandy having to have like a whole monologue, that was the weirder thing more than her having to pick leeches off my butt,” he admitted before adding, “It’s like a fever dream. It’s like a fever dream to even explain any of this.”

“It’s a hell of a day two, let me just say that,” Tatum added, summing up the hilarious chaos of the day.

Director Adam Nee required Tatum to be “completely naked” for the scene, except for a small modesty sock covering him in front. Bullock later said the trust and professionalism between them made the awkward moment much easier to handle.

“You have to really like the person and feel safe with them. There was no weirdness,” Bullock said, describing how comfortable they felt working together during the shoot.

“You’d think there would be weirdness, but because he was so chill about it, he dropped everything and I spoke to it.”

Interestingly, their friendship began before the movie was even filmed. Their daughters attended the same preschool, which meant the actors had already crossed paths as parents long before sharing the screen.

Bullock once shared that at first, their daughters — Everly and Laila — didn’t exactly get along. But time healed that rift, and Tatum later confirmed that the two families have since become close friends, with the girls now wanting to “hang out all the time.”
