Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took a shot at the Detroit Lions after the heated post-game brawl, which started with Brian Branch going after JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Patrick Mahomes took a knee on the final play of Kansas City’s 30-17 win over the visiting Lions on “Sunday Night Football.” After the game, close-up camera footage showed Branch throwing Smith-Schuster to the ground:

In the post-game interview with Mahomes and Hollywood Brown, NBC Sports reporter Melissa Stark asked the quarterback about the brawl. Usually one to stay away from trash talk, Mahomes couldn’t pass on the chance to throw shade at the opponent this time around.

“We play the game in between the whistles,” Patrick Mahomes said. “They can do all the extracurricular stuff they want to do, but we play the game in between the whistles, and we thought we played a great game today.”

The Chiefs looked like the annual Super Bowl contender we’ve grown accustomed to after a sluggish 2-3 start, making easy work of a dangerous Lions team that had won four straight games by double-digit points.

Per ESPN, Patrick Mahomes completed 22 of 30 pass attempts for 257 yards, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, 32 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in the prime-time victory.

Kansas City will try and get back above .500 when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
