Chris Pratt’s stunt double Tony McFarr has been confirmed dead aged 47.
Antonio ‘Tony’ McFarr worked with Chris Pratt in Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and two of the Jurassic World films. He also starred in Ant-Man and the Wasp and The Darkest Minds.
Throughout his career, McFarr was awarded three SAG award nominations thanks to his performances on-screen, per the Metro.
He also racked up a few acting credits in shows like Macgyver, Burn Notice, and One Tree Hill.
Now, Pratt has reacted to the death of his friend and stunt double after news of his tragic passing.
Following the announcement of McFarr’s death, tributes have flooded in for the star.
One fan writes: “Oh my god, my condolences to all involved especially his family.”
Another adds: “Rest in peace. The real hero.”
“Sending hugs and prayers to his family and friends I am sorry for your loss,” agrees a third.
McFarr had formed a close bond with Chris Pratt, 44, over the years after working as his stunt double on a host of movies.
The actor shared a tribute to his friend in a moving post on Instagram, along with several photos of the two on the set of films together.
Pratt, a father himself, said he felt ‘especially’ for McFarr’s daughter.
The Passengers actor writes: “Devastated to hear about the loss of my friend and former stunt double.
“We did several movies together. We golfed, drank whiskey, smoked cigars, and spent endless hours on set. I’ll never forget his toughness.”
Pratt continues: “I remember he took a nasty shot to the head (in the title sequence of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) and got several staples in his head – he came right back to work ready to go again.
“He was an absolute stud. He was always a gentleman and professional.”
In recent years, the stuntman shifted his focus to restaurant ownership, opening several eateries in Florida.
One notable venture is Reel Bowls, a film-themed poke and salad restaurant near Orlando.
News of McFarr’s death was confirmed to TMZ on Thursday (May 16) by his mother who said he had died on Monday (May 13) at his home, just outside Orlando, Florida.
McFarr’s mother said the death was ‘unexpected and shocking’ as her son was ‘healthy and active’.
The Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office is currently conducting toxicology tests.
They have confirmed that they are handling the case, but the official cause of death is still pending, according to Deadline.
McFarr’s death is also listed on the website of Wylie-Baxley Funeral Home in his hometown of Merritt Island, Florida.
The stuntman is survived by his daughter, his sister, and his parents.
The family plans to gather in the coming weeks to celebrate his life. He will be laid to rest near his grandmother in Pennsylvania.
Rest in peace.
