A quiet morning inside a senior care facility turned into a shocking tragedy—an 82-year-old woman is accused of shooting and killing her own husband. How did this happen?
According to the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11:30 a.m. Friday to a report of gunfire at the Preston Health Center, located inside Hilton Head Plantation in South Carolina.
Inside a resident’s room, officers found Harriet Kay Recker, 82, standing beside her husband, Dennis Recker, 81, who had been shot. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Dennis was pronounced dead.
Authorities say Harriet Recker was taken into custody without incident. She is now being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center, charged with murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives work to uncover the motive behind the deadly shooting inside the assisted living facility.
