Explaining what happened when Ricky was shot, San Francisco Police Chief William Scott gave a news briefing on Saturday evening, August 31.
He stated that Ricky told him he had been walking about a block away from Union Square (in San Francisco) around 3:30 p.m. local time when an armed suspect attempted to rob him.

This then led to a physical altercation between the two. “The struggle between Mr. Pearsall and the suspect ensued, and gunfire from the suspect’s gun struck both Mr. Pearsall and the subject,” divulged the police chief.

Even though the armed robber tried to escape from the police, they managed to catch him. The police reported that the suspect is a 17-year-old boy from Tracy, North Carolina. Similar to Ricky, the young robber was also sent to the hospital after what happened.

After Chief William gave his briefing, Ricky’s mom, Erin, decided to share an update on social media. She began by expressing her gratitude to God for keeping her son safe during the incident. Then, she explained that the bullet that went into Ricky’s chest actually came out of his back, which was a relief because it missed all of his important organs.
