When Kate Middleton revealed her cancer diagnosis to everyone in March last year, it shocked the entire nation — Everyone was focused on her, praying for her recovery and looking forward to her coming back to public life.
However, even after a year and a half, Kate, who announced in September that she is cancer-free, hasn’t completely returned to her royal responsibilities.
In a video shared back in September, the Princess of Wales expressed: “As summer ends, I can’t explain how relieved I am to have finally finished my chemotherapy treatment.”
She mentioned that it had been an “incredibly tough” year and that “life can change in an instant.” She also described the “stormy waters” of cancer as “complex, scary, and unpredictable.”
“With humility, it forces you to confront your own vulnerabilities in ways you’ve never thought about before, giving you a new perspective on everything,” Kate continued.
Since then, the beloved princess has made a few public appearances, including at last year’s and this year’s Trooping the Colour.
Now, a source has indicated that Kate Middleton plans to approach her return to public duties differently.
“Cancer changes your perspective, and what you’ve seen in the choices they’ve made over the past year is that family and their children remain at the heart of their world,” a source told royal correspondent Rebbeca English.
Both Their Royal Highnesses are deeply dedicated to their responsibilities, service, and leveraging their influence for positive change. However, they are currently exploring how to balance their roles as parents with their duties as the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Another source mentioned: “Everyone is making adjustments.”
A close friend of the princess remarked: “As Catherine has expressed, she is looking ahead with optimism and a renewed appreciation for life. She has also had to take a step back and focus on her own needs, which has naturally led her to rethink their priorities.”
While Kate was present with her family at Trooping the Colour, she chose not to attend the Royal Ascot. The Daily Mail reported that this decision was due to the princess being “quite selective” about her public appearances.
Despite her passion for her royal responsibilities, she is striving to achieve a healthy balance in her life. “She’s very particular now about what events she needs to attend and which ones she can skip. People often forget that even when she’s not in the public eye, she is actively involved behind the scenes with her office team. She has her own initiatives to focus on, like her early years project. That’s a lifelong commitment for HRH,” a source shared with the Daily Mail.
