The cause of death of David Gail, the actor best known for Beverly Hills, 90210, has been confirmed.
Gail was a star of the big and small screen, with some truly legendary roles under his belt.
He starred in TV series such as Growing Pains, Doogie Howser, M.D. and Murder, She Wrote.
Gail then began a prolific soap opera stint.
He starred as Stuart Carson, the fiancé of Shannen Doherty’s Brenda Walsh in Beverly Hills, 90210, and Dean Collins in the WB drama Savannah.
The actor also played Dr. Joe Scanlon in more than 200 episodes of the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles.
Gail’s fans were left devastated this weekend when it was announced that the actor had passed away aged 58.
Gail’s sister, Katie Colmenares, took to Instagram to share that her brother had sadly died.
She penned: “There’s barely been even a day in my life when you were not with me by my side, always my wingman, always my best friend, ready to face anything and anyone with me. The bears will never be the same but I will hold you so tight every day in my heart, you gorgeous, loving, amazing fierce human being, missing you every second of every day forever, there will never be another.”
Many people have taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) and paid tribute to Gail, with one fan writing: “RIP David Gail, too soon.”
Another adds: “Omg, please say it isn’t so. RIP David Gail.”
Somebody else says: “Rest in peace to David Gail. He was so good as Brenda’s fiancé Stuart. Our hearts go out to his family and friends.”
While Gail’s former co-star, Shannen Doherty, has also paid tribute to him by taking to her Instagram stories and sharing a photo of the two of them.
The late actor had previously opened up about working with the actress on the Beverly Hills 90210 Show podcast in 2021.
He said: “We got along great and we had a really good relationship. We talked about the scenes, we worked on them and it was fun.”
Amid the outpouring of tributes, Gail’s cause of death has now been confirmed by a spokesperson.
The actor’s representative told the New York Post that he died as a result of complications following cardiac arrest.
Gail was found unresponsive and taken to hospital to be put on life support.
This continued for several days until the 58-year-old was pronounced dead on January 16.
The family are not investigating any further suspicious circumstances, as per his rep.
“We are extremely touched by the outpouring of love from David’s dedicated fans and colleagues,” his mum, Mary, says in a statement.
“We are grateful for all the support received during this very difficult time.”
In addition to his mum and sister, Gail is survived by his son Guthier.
