They were alarmed by the prices
Two Gen Z girls decided they ‘don’t want to be an adult’ anymore after realising how expensive food is.
The TikTok video of the incident has gone viral after it was posted by the mum of one of the 17-year-olds.
The video shows the pair walking around the supermarket and expressing a desire to stay young forever after realising how expensive food has become.
Amber Morris, who shared the now-viral video asked the teens: “So girls, what have we learned about grocery shopping?”
Morris’ daughter responded: “I don’t want to be an adult. It takes me an hour’s worth of work, and I still can’t even buy this… it’s three pieces of chicken.”
Morris titled the clip ‘adulting is tough!’ and it has now been viewed over a million times.
Many users replied to the relatable clip, sympathising with the girls. One shared: “I called my mom crying the first time I went food shopping after moving out.”
One said: “I spent $390 today at the grocery store. A pack of chicken was $15!”
A third said: “I don’t want to be an adult either!” While a fourth wrote: “I’m tired of adulting.”
Others warned the girls that they have so much more to learn about adulting.
Another user wrote: “Wait until they learn about how the money, they make is taxed, and when they spend it, it’s taxed again, and at the end of the year they are taxed again on their money that was already taxed and taxed.”
CNBC reported earlier this year that the price of food has increased by 25 per cent since the start of the Covid pandemic, with 80 per cent of Americans saying they’ve felt a noticeable increase in the cost of groceries.
