Netflix Viewers Praise ‘Outstanding’ Crime Thriller Series After Binge-Watching Whole Thing In One Day

Ever since it was announced late last year, fans have been super excited about a certain Netflix thriller.

And now it’s dropped just in time for our New Year’s hangovers, and it’s safe to say, it hasn’t disappointed.

After the hectic rush of Christmas and New Year, many of us are looking forward to spending January curled up in front of a screen.

There are a lot of options on Netflix right now, but many fans are pointing eager viewers towards a certain crime thriller that’s taking the internet by storm…

Fool Me Once has hit the platform after months of teasers and trailers.

The series, based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Harlan Coben, stars Coronation Street’s Michelle Keegan as grieving widow, Maya Stern.

And the star-studded cast doesn’t stop there, with Murder Mystery star Adeel Akhtar playing Detective Sergeant Sami Kierce and Absolutely Fabulous icon Joanna Lumley as Judith Burkett.

It follows a woman (Keegan) who watches security camera footage of her home and sees her murdered husband (Armitage) back as an intruder.

Meanwhile, her niece and nephew are trying to uncover the truth about the murder of their mother and whether there are possible connections between the two cases.

The official Netflix synopsis reads: “Maya Stern is trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of her husband, Joe. However, when Maya installs a nanny cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she is shocked to see her husband in her house.”

The TV series has already garnered some rave reviews on social media, with one fan writing: “Fool Me Once is an outstanding show so far!”

Another agreed, adding: “I did not expect to end Fool Me Once in floods of tears but that was BRILLIANT.”

A third raved: “Just finished episode 6 of Fool Me Once, OOOH IT’S GOOD. Saving the last two until after I’ve been to the hairdresser. Don’t want it to end.”

Fool Me Once is definitely a 10/10. Great graphics as well,” a fourth chimed in.

However, it doesn’t look like the show is an unmitigated success…

The Independent’s Nick Hilton awarded it one star out of five, writing: “It’s hard to oversell how convoluted and implausible Fool Me Once really is.

“Your tolerance for Fool Me Once will hinge entirely on your ability to switch off your brain and allow proceedings to wash over you. The plot, which is not really worth following, is further inhibited by melodramatic dialogue that swings between extremes of emotion.”

Nonetheless, it seems the show is already cultivating a rather dedicated fanbase.

The show boasts an impressive 6.9 out of 10 on IMDb and is continuing to get a lot of love on X, formerly Twitter.
