A solid gold toilet valued at 4.8 million pounds was stolen from Blenheim Palace
in 2019. The incident took place after a private party, when the criminals broke into the premises and ripped out the 18-carat art piece.
Two men from Oxford were ultimately convicted for the theft.
James Sheen and Michael Jones were sentenced in 2024, after a long forensic and digital investigation. Sheen pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison, while Jones received a sentence of two years and three months.
Sheen has been in prison since 2020, serving another previous sentence. His criminal record includes fraud and thefts, totaling over 5 million pounds. The gold was partially sold in Birmingham for £520,000, but much of it remains missing. The case revealed how the thieves used Romani and Cockney rhyming slang to hide their misdeeds.
