Georgina Chapman, the girlfriend of Adrien Brody, has spoken out after Brody and Halle Berry kissed in front of her at the Oscars.
The unexpected red carpet moment, which mirrored their infamous 2003 Oscars kiss, quickly became one of the most talked-about moments of the 2025 Academy Awards.

Berry, who attended the event to present a special James Bond tribute, spotted Brody mid-interview and seized her moment.
Interrupting his conversation with Access Hollywood, Berry turned to Chapman and joked: “Sorry Georgina, I have to do this.”
She then grabbed Brody’s face and planted a kiss on him, recreating the controversial 2003 moment when Brody had unexpectedly kissed her on stage after winning Best Actor for The Pianist.
As she pulled away, Berry quipped: “I had to do that. I had to pay him back.”

The crowd erupted in cheers, and even Brody – who was nominated that night for his role in The Brutalist – smiled and embraced Berry.
Chapman, who watched the whole thing unfold, was far from bothered. When asked about the viral moment, she laughed it off, telling Extra, cited by the Independent: “It was [quite the moment], wasn’t it? I mean, how can you deny a man a kiss with Halle Berry?”
She reassured everyone that her boyfriend was “more than fine” with the situation.

Berry later revealed she had actually checked with Chapman first before making her move.
“Oh yeah! Only because she was fine could I do it. Twenty-one years I’ve been waiting to get him on a red carpet and slap on one.”
After the kiss, Berry took to X (formerly Twitter), posting footage of the moment and joking: “Surpriseee @adrienbrody!! I had to get some payback.”
The original moment in 2003 was not planned – and quickly became one of the most talked-about moments in Academy Awards history.
Brody, then 29, had just won Best Actor for The Pianist when he grabbed Berry and kissed her on stage without warning.
Berry was visibly caught off guard, and while she laughed it off in the moment, she later admitted: “That was not planned. I knew nothing about it.”

Reflecting on the moment in a 2017 interview on Watch What Happens Live, she recalled: “I was like, ‘What the f**k is happening right now?’ But because I had been in that same position the year before, I just f**king went with it. But I was like, ‘What the f is going on?’”
Over the years, Brody has defended the kiss, telling Vanity Fair in 2015: “That was that moment where I really, really felt it slow down. In fact, it must have, because by the time I got finished kissing her… they were already flashing the sign that said, ‘Get off the stage, your time is up.’”
More recently, he acknowledged how attitudes around personal boundaries and consent have evolved, telling Variety: “We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing. And nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
