Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has made headlines after her controversial fight with Italy’s Angela Carini at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and Shannon Sharpe is taking a controversial stance on the topic.
Italy’s Angela Carini abandoned the round-of-16 fight after just 46 seconds, later saying she had never been hit as hard in the ring.
Khelif became a source of frustration after social media discovered that she had been banned from the 2023 World Championships in New Delhi after failing a gender eligibility test but had been allowed to compete at the Olympic Games.
That led many to think she was transgender.
Despite the controversy surrounding this, Khelif is not a transgender athlete. It’s reported there are no transgender women competing at the 2024 Olympics at all.
ESPN’s Shannon Sharpe made his stance abundantly clear on his “Nightcap” podcast.
“She was born a woman,” Sharpe said, via Awful Announcing. “Transgender people are trying to get rights. And when they go to Capitol Hill, these senators and representatives on the other side ask doctors very specific questions. ‘Doc, I want to ask you one thing, can this woman have a child?’ Yes, she can…So, how is she not a woman? Biologically and anatomically, how is she not a woman?”
On Thursday, the International Olympic Committee stated they confirmed that Khelif complied with the eligibility and entry regulations for this year’s Games.
“Every person has the right to practice sport without discrimination,” the IOC said in its statement. “All athletes participating in the boxing tournament of the Olympic Games Paris 2024 comply with the competition’s eligibility and entry regulations, as well as all applicable medical regulations set by the Paris 2024 Boxing Unit. As with previous Olympic boxing competitions, the gender and age of the athletes are based on their passport.”
There Has Been Zero Proof Provided That Imane Khelif Has Ever Claimed To Be Transgender
Imane Khelif has the entire world going after her following false accusations of being transgender.
Although Imane Khelif’s participation in Olympic women’s boxing has been scrutinized in recent days, the 25-year-old has always competed as a woman, including during the Tokyo Olympics.
In fact, there has been no proof that she identifies as transgender or intersex.
Khelif’s win provoked responses from several prominent figures, but despite they think, she will continue on in these Olympics.
