A man’s photograph has been gaining traction on the internet as he managed to capture a unique phenomenon while climbing a mountain to celebrate the start of the new year.
Rhys Pleming, an avid hiker, chose to kick off January 1 by conquering Snowdon, the tallest mountain in England and Wales.
He intended to capture the initial sunrise of the decade with his friend, but he never could have predicted what they would end up experiencing.
Rhys not only had the opportunity to witness the sunrise, but he also had the privilege of seeing the extremely rare phenomenon known as the Broken spectre.
The hiker captured stunning images that seem to depict a silhouette moving amidst the clouds, surrounded by a halo of colorful light.

According to reports, the extraordinary event takes place when the setting sun is positioned low behind an individual gazing into mist from an elevated ridge. The person’s shadow is then projected ahead, creating a silhouette against the rainbow and creating the optical illusion of a figure in the sky.
Rhys informed North Wales Live that despite the cloudy weather, he and his friend took the chance to go up and see the sunrise, even though there was only a 50/50 chance of it being visible.
I was instructed to walk ahead as he was moving slower than me. I must have reached the summit around 8.15am and began capturing some pictures of the sunrise. There were also a few other individuals present at that time.
My friend got to the top about an hour later, and that’s when we saw the Brocken spectre. It was like perfect timing. We were so lucky!
It might have just been luck, but wow, that picture is amazing! What a cool way to start off 2020!
