‘School of Rock’ child stars marry each other over 20 years after meeting on iconic movie

Get ready to feel old, because two child stars from the School of Rock have married each other, and their wedding was a big cast reunion!

If you’re like me then this is a big deal to you because I’ve had the songs from that movie going around my head for the last couple of decades.

Yep, the movie came out in 2003.

But before we descend into a panic about how old we are, we should celebrate a happy couple!

Caitlin Hale and Angelo Massagli, who first met as child actors on the set of the hit movie, have tied the knot!

Hale and Massagli played key roles in the Richard Linklater-directed comedy, which starred Jack Black as a musician-turned-substitute teacher who transforms a class of students into a rock band.

Hale portrayed Marta, the band’s backup singer, while Massagli played Frankie, the “tough guy” security guard.

The film, penned by The White Lotus creator Mike White, featured a cast of young actors who were middle and high school students at the time.

Reflecting on their first meeting during auditions in New York City, Massagli told The New York Times: “I was like, ‘wow, that girl’s really, really, really something else.’”

After the film wrapped, both Hale and Massagli stepped away from acting to pursue other careers.

Hale now works as an OB-GYN ultrasound technologist, while Massagli serves as a lawyer for TikTok.

Despite moving on from Hollywood, the pair stayed connected with their School of Rock castmates through a group chat.

However, it wasn’t until they were both studying in Florida in 2018 that Hale and Massagli reconnected in person. A casual lunch to catch up quickly turned into something more.

“We thought that was kind of it,” Massagli explained. “But we just kept grabbing dinners and going out for the weekends. We were like, ‘something’s brewing here.’” Hale, meanwhile, told a friend early in their rekindled friendship, “I think I’m gonna marry this guy.”

The couple got engaged in June 2023 and celebrated their love with what Hale described as an “all out” wedding.

The couple, now both 33, exchanged vows on January 4 in a ceremony that brought together several of their former co-stars.

The ceremony featured nine of their former School of Rock castmates, along with many of the actors’ parents and siblings.

The couple even shared a nostalgic dance to Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” a nod to a memorable scene in the movie.

Rivkah Reyes, another cast member from the film, documented the wedding on TikTok, capturing the emotional reunion.

Although Jack Black was unable to attend due to filming commitments, he sent his blessings through what Hale described as a “generous” video message.

Black has remained close to the School of Rock community and previously paid tribute to castmate Kevin Clark, who tragically passed away in 2021.
