Reeva Steenkamp’s mother has issued a stark warning to Oscar Pistorius’ new girlfriend.
The 38-year-old South African star shocked the world in 2013 after it was reported that he shot his 29-year-old girlfriend multiple times through a locked bathroom door on Valentine’s Day, claiming that he mistook her for an intruder.
Initially, a judge convicted him of manslaughter, but South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal overturned the verdict in 2017, convicting him of murder.
The athlete was released on parole in January this year after serving half of his 13-year sentence.
Pistorius remains under strict parole conditions until 2029, including alcohol restrictions, media bans, and curfews.
Despite these restrictions, the double-amputee sprinter has reportedly begun dating Rita Greyling, a 33-year-old business consultant.
His late ex’s mom, June Steenkamp, has expressed concern about this new relationship in a recent interview with The Sun, saying: “I don’t understand how she doesn’t see a red flag about him because he has not lost his temper problem.
“He was supposed to be under anger management when he was in jail and at one stage I stopped him coming out because I was annoyed that he wasn’t having treatment,” she continued. “He was angry – and he still has a problem with anger. He’s still a danger to women.
“Reeva only knew him for three months and she was dead and he’s never confessed,” she said, adding that seeing her daughter’s murderer in a new relationship isn’t “painful,” but rather she’s “worried” for the well-being of the woman involved.
Steenkamp’s sister, Simone, also voiced her concerns about Pistorius’ new relationship, slamming the athlete for dating someone who bears a striking resemblance to her murdered sister.
“Is she nuts?” Simone questioned, adding, ”I am just looking at this woman’s photographs and I have goosebumps and shivers going down my spine at this moment. What shocks me is that she looks so much like my Reeva,” cited by The Mirror.
“She is the same build, the same face and hair, even the same eyes. Is he that sick that he wanted to find a lookalike?” she added.
The grieving sister said Pistorius has “no remorse” for what he did to his ex-girlfriend, and advised Rita to “sleep with one eye open”.
“I also have to ask myself how a woman can close her eyes at night and go to sleep with a man she knows fired four bullets that mutilate flesh into a woman he says he loved,” she added.
