If you’re a fan of Friends, prepare to be blown away by a recurring habit that Rachel Green has – that we bet you have NEVER noticed.
I’ve been a huge Friends fan for the last 20 years, but now a TikToker under the handle @cts.trphe may have ruined the show for me forever after taking to the social media platform to point out Jennifer Aniston’s “annoying” habit to his 82,000 followers.

He starts off his video by responding to a question about tropes in the media. He says it technically isn’t a “trope” but what he is about to share about Rachel is going “ruin your life”
“What I’m about to say is going to ruin your life, especially if you are a big fan of the show Friends. If you are a big fan of that show, I’m begging you, scroll away, because I’m going to ruin your life.”

He goes on: “Jennifer Aniston has this sort of vocal tic that she does at the beginning of every single sentence that she starts, on any show that she’s in. It’s very specific and it’s very hard to un-see once you notice it.”
@cts.trphe then proceeds to show a montage of Rachel scenes featuring her habit – she seems to instinctively clear her throat at the start of each sentence.
The video has since gone viral, with a million views, more than 176,000 likes, and nearly 1,800 comments at the time of writing.
A number of people have since taken to the comments to share that they had also noticed Aniston’s habit, with one revealing: “I subconsciously knew what it was and I MADE THE SOUND before you played it.”

Another agreed: “Yes!! She does this so much. A lotttt [sic] of people have crutches when acting when they don’t know what else to do. A lot of people sigh or grunt etc.”
A third person said: “I noticed this a long time ago tbh I always loved it. Makes the character real.”
Others had a perfectly reasonable explanation for the “vocal tic”, with one writing: “I thought it was just acting? To indicate that the character is like uncomfy she only seems to do it in situations that are a little awkward.”
Another person disagreed with the TikToker that Rachel clears her throat at the start of every sentence, saying: “Not at the beginning of every sentence I just on a random episode to see if I’d notice and I watched like twenty minutes and she didn’t do it once.”
Okay, so maybe @cts.trphe is exaggerating a little bit – but now that he’s pointed it out, I can’t help but notice it every single time.
