James Howells, 39, accidentally threw away a hard drive in 2013. After Bitcoin’s value surged, the coins are now worth over £500 million. Howells, who had acquired the Bitcoins in the early days of cryptocurrency, has been trying to retrieve the drive from a landfill in Newport. Despite offering the council a share of the Bitcoin’s value, the council has refused to let him search. Howells has now filed a lawsuit for £495 million, claiming the council is withholding his property without consent.
