Elon Musk’s son X Æ A-Xii crashes interview and reveals how to pronounce name

Even after hearing it, you still won’t be able to pronounce it

Elon Musk’s son has a bit of a peculiar name, and even after hearing the kid pronounce it, I still am at a loss on how to say it.

Celebrities choosing to name their children something eccentric isn’t exactly a new thing.

And while there might be a lot of differing opinions about the richest man in the world, I think we can all agree he’s certainly eccentric.

Back in 2020, when Musk and his then-girlfriend Grimes announced their baby boy’s name, it raised some eyebrows.

And to be fair, it still raises eyebrows – it is just easier to call Musk’s son one of his 12 children.

But in a rather cute moment earlier this month, he crashed an interview Musk was having with Tucker Carlson.

The little kid walked into the interview, plonked his toy car on the desk, and then sat on his father’s lap, with Carlson asking what he was doing and what his name was.

Musk even smiled and said he had his ‘mini-me’ here, adding that he completes him.

Speaking pretty clearly into the mic, Musk’s son pronounces his name, and I guarantee you couldn’t repeat it perfectly on your first try.

Have a listen.

Musk then calls him by his apparent nickname, X, and asks whether he should help President Trump, to which he answers yes.

Admittedly, the four-year-old does appear to babble some other stuff that is hard to make out, so maybe even he mispronounced his name.

As you can imagine, people at the time questioned what the name even meant.

Grimes has previously explained: “X stands for ‘the unknown variable’.”

For the rest of the name, ‘Æ’ is the Elven spelling of AI, which is shorthand for artificial intelligence and the word for ‘love’ in several languages, such as Japanese.

Grimes added: “A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent.”

Funnily enough, Grimes and Musk have different ideas on how to exactly pronounce the name itself.

Grimes has previously said: ”It’s just X, like the letter X. Then AI. Like how you said the letter A then I,”

Whereas Musk, while on the Joe Rogan podcast ,said: “I mean, it’s just X, the letter X. And then, the Æ is, like, pronounced ‘Ash’… and then, A-12, A-12 is my contribution.”
