A man has been crowned ‘UFC Chairman’ after a video of him went viral revealing his ‘job is to make sure commentators don’t miss their chair when sitting back down’.
Move over Joe Rogan, there’s a new member of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) community who’s stealing your thunder – The Chair Conductor.
Fight Spotted shared a video post to Instagram earlier this year showing multiple UFC commentators including the likes Rogan and Jon Anik strapped into their headsets and reporting on the action.
However, it’s not Rogan or any of the commentators that social media users were interested in watching, but a man lingering behind them, seen rushing forward to push in chairs for the commentators as they sat back down and continued screaming into their headsets, keeping their eyes firmly forward on the action.
Fight Spotted’s caption reads: “There’s a guy whose only job is to make sure commentators don’t miss their chair when sitting back down.”
And it didn’t take long for others to dub the man the title of ‘UFC Chairman’ and ‘The Chair Conductor’.
Another user added: “What’s his job title? Chair guy? lol.”
However, the man himself has since addressed his role.
Taking to the comments on Fight Spotted’s Instagram post, Miles Lafosse offered some further insight to what he actually does, adding the video and reactions to it have been ‘wild’.
He explained: “I’m the booth audio technician. All microphones around the octagon including commentators mics are set up by me. During the fights I’m there to make sure everything sounds great but also help the commentators feel comfortable with whatever they need.
“When a crazy KO happens I get up to help if a chair flies, but mainly to help Anik sit back down. He’s the only commentator that has his headset cable ran behind him from his left ear to his right hip. I make sure he doesn’t sit on the slack and rips his headset off. I will say UFC Chairman has a ring to it.”
Another user added: “This is Miles! He’s a vital part of our incredible audio crew. From the headsets, to the stick mics to the executives headphones (and about a million more things) are all under his watch and care during the shows. He helps us in a million different ways (none of which he has to do, he’s just that kind of person). He’s one of the best dudes ever, we are all lucky to call him our friend aside from our colleague.”
And another clarified: “Hahaha Miles does soo much more! But yes this is vital, can you imagine everyone falling each time they stood up?”
