Emilia Clarke Reveals Which Sex Scene In Game Of Thrones She Found The Most ‘Awkward’ To Film

Emilia Clarke has shared her thoughts on the sex scene in Game of Thrones that she found the most awkward to film.Game of Thrones is definitely famous for its many explicit scenes. It got so well-known for this that one particular scene even inspired the term ‘sexposition.’

This term describes moments when characters reveal important plot details while getting steamy, to keep the audience from losing interest.

Emilia Clarke’s character, Daenerys Targaryen, often featured nudity and sex scenes, especially in the earlier seasons of the show.

Clarke has talked before about how she had just come out of drama school when she landed the role and found filming the nude scenes ‘terrifying.’

She has also mentioned that her co-star Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo, was very protective of her on set. He looked out for her during those scenes, which she greatly appreciated.

When asked about which scene was the most ‘awkward’ for her, Clarke gave an answer that might surprise some people.

She told Digital Spy: “Funnily enough the most awkward scene for me to film was the mildly lesbian scene with Roxanne McKee.”

“That was the most tricky I found. I don’t know why particularly, I think it because Dany found it tricky.”

For those who might not remember, this scene involves Daenerys’ handmaiden Doreah, played by McKee, giving her advice on how to please her husband Khal Drogo.

While Doreah is ‘instructing’ Daenerys, there’s a palpable tension between the two characters.

Clarke continued: “Obviously with the much stronger scenes Dany had to go into a different mindset to try and escape, so I did as well whereas with the handmaiden scene it was more kind of, tricky.”

This wasn’t the only time Daenerys had a moment of tension with another woman on the show.

In a later season, the Mother of Dragons had a flirtatious interaction with Yara Greyjoy, played by Gemma Whelan, who is openly LGBTQ+.

Clarke has also talked about a particularly infamous scene where Daenerys’ husband Khal Drogo rapes her on their wedding night.

Reflecting on filming this intense scene with Jason Momoa, she said: “He was crying more than I was,” adding: “He was always like, ‘Can we get her a f**king robe? She’s shivering!’”

“He was so kind and considerate and cared about me as a human being.”

Since those early experiences, Clarke has become very firm about setting boundaries regarding nude scenes.

She said: “I’ve had fights on set before where I’m like, ‘No, the sheet stays up,’ and they’re like, ‘You don’t wanna disappoint your Game of Thrones fans.’ And I’m like, ‘F*ck you.’ ”
