8-Month-Old Reese Bowman’s Tragic Daycare Death: Kentucky Caregiver Sentenced to 70 Years in Prison

· Sonie Fanie

On May 23, 2017, 8-month-old Reese Annette Bowman d*ed at a daycare facility in Kentucky after being placed in the care of employee Leah Walden.

Reese had been attending Rocket Tiers Learning Center when, according to court records, Walden became frustrated because the infant would not go down for a nap after lunch. Witness statements later revealed that Walden vented her anger to a coworker, using disturbing language about the child.

Prosecutors stated that Walden struck Reese, held her down, and covered her face with blankets, causing her to suffocate. The infant was later found unresponsive.
An investigation determined Reese’s d*ath was a homicide. In November 2018, Walden pleaded guilty to first-degree m*rder. She was sentenced to 70 years in prison.

The case devastated Reese’s family and shocked the community, raising renewed concerns about childcare oversight and the responsibility entrusted to caregivers. What should have been an ordinary day at daycare ended in tragedy for an 8-month-old child whose life had barely begun.
