Kaylee’s daughter, Amanda, had been gone for two weeks. Even though Kaylee and the police worked really hard to find her, there was still no sign of Amanda. One day, after hanging up more missing person flyers, Kaylee visited her neighbor’s garage sale. To her shock, she spotted Amanda’s jacket—the same one she had on the night she vanished.
Kaylee carefully hung up flyers all over the city, sticking them on every lamppost and bulletin board she could see. Each flyer had a picture of Amanda and a heartfelt request for any information.
Amanda had left home two weeks earlier. Her phone was turned off, and none of her friends knew where she was. At first, Kaylee figured it was just typical teenage rebellion, but as the days went by without Amanda coming back, her worry turned into real fear. She quickly contacted the police, who began a search for her.
Since Amanda’s disappearance, Kaylee tirelessly put up flyers, hoping for any leads. Heavy rain the previous day ruined her efforts, forcing her to start over. Exhausted yet determined, she stapled the last flyer to a telephone pole, fighting back tears.
On her way home, Kaylee saw her neighbor Angela getting ready for a garage sale. The yard was filled with bright signs and all sorts of stuff. Angela shouted to Kaylee, inviting her to come check it out. At first, Kaylee wasn’t sure, but she decided to go over, thinking it might take her mind off things.
Kaylee wandered through Angela’s yard, feeling empty and detached. As she absently browsed the items, a jacket caught her eye. It was Amanda’s jacket. Her heart raced as she clutched the jacket and demanded Angela to tell her where she got it. Angela, shocked, explained she had bought it at a second-hand store near the bus station. Kaylee, desperate for answers, hurried to the store.
At the store, Kaylee took Amanda’s jacket to the seller. He kind of remembered a girl who looked like Amanda. He said she had a disagreement about the price because she needed cash for a bus ticket. Since there wasn’t any more info, Kaylee went to the bus station and showed Amanda’s picture to the workers there, but nobody recognized her.
Feeling defeated, Kaylee sat on a bench, clutching Amanda’s jacket. She found a piece of paper with an address in one of the pockets. The address led to a neighboring town, where Amanda’s biological mother lived. Kaylee, determined, drove to the address.
When she got there, a messy-looking woman opened the door. The woman said that Amanda had been there but had already gone. Feeling sad, Kaylee headed to the nearby police station, wishing to find out more. As she drove, she spotted a girl sitting on the steps of an old, empty house. It was Amanda.
Kaylee rushed to Amanda, who ran into her arms. Amanda explained she had been living in the abandoned house after failing to reconnect with her biological mother. Her phone had been stolen, and she feared Kaylee wouldn’t want to see her. Kaylee reassured Amanda of her unconditional love, and they both apologized for their mistakes.
They strolled back to the car, hugging each other closely. Even though it was raining heavily, they felt a wave of relief and fresh hope, realizing they had each other and were on their way home.
