Over twenty years after the September 11, 2001 attacks, new video of the Twin Towers falling has come to light. Kei Sugimoto, the person who filmed it, found some old tapes in his closet and decided to share the footage. A Reddit user commented, “It’s wild that we’re nearly 23 years later and still finding new videos.”
Sugimoto recorded the footage from the roof of a building at 64 St Marks Place in New York City, giving a different angle of the towers collapsing from the north. The video shows the towers filled with smoke before they fall, offering a “unique view not seen from the south or east,” as one viewer pointed out.
Since it was released on July 23, 2023, the footage has sparked a lot of conversations online. One user said, “It makes me think about how much history is hidden in people’s attics or basements, just waiting to be found.”
By sharing this footage, Sugimoto not only adds a new visual aspect to the memory of 9/11 but also helps keep alive the memory of an event that changed the world in the 21st century.
