Authorities have issued a major update on the arrest of Hollywood Shia LaBeouf as more shocking details have emerged.
The Transformers star was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday (February 17) in New Orleans, after spending a long weekend partying across the city during Mardi Gras.
Mardi Gras is a festive celebration held before the Christian season of Lent, especially famous in New Orleans, featuring parades, costumes, music, and parties.
Things reportedly got out of hand when officers were called to a violent altercation involving the actor.
Shia LaBeouf’s career
Before his career became overshadowed by controversy, LaBeouf was widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s most prominent young actors.
He first entered the scene as a teenager on Even Stevens, earning a Daytime Emmy Award and establishing himself as a standout talent among early-2000s child stars.
He went on to successfully transition into film, with roles in movies such as Holes, before securing leading-man status in the blockbuster Transformers franchise.
The film’s commercial success made him an international box-office draw and positioned him as a central figure in Hollywood.
He further solidified that standing with a high-profile role in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, directed by Steven Spielberg.
Yet it’s safe to say that the star suffered a significant fall from grace.
LaBeouf’s downfall
LaBeouf’s downfall began with a series of arrests and erratic public incidents in the early 2010s, which damaged his professional reputation, but escalated significantly in 2020.
During this time, singer FKA twigs filed a lawsuit accusing the star of abuse, and the allegations led to widespread industry backlash, legal battles, and a sharp decline in major acting opportunities.
The 37-year-old sued him for s**ual battery, assault, and infliction of emotional distress, alleging a pattern of ‘relentless’ abuse.
The two reached a settlement in July 2025 after going back and forth for numerous years with evidence.
In an interview with the Times, the singer said: “I’d like to be able to raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency.”
In an email to the New York Times responding to the allegations, LaBeouf wrote: “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations.
“I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me.
“I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
LaBeouf and Mia Goth call time on marriage
This week, Page Six reported that LaBeouf and actress Mia Goth called it quits on their relationship.
It’s currently unclear if they have filed for divorce at this time.
The two have had a rollercoaster, on-and-off romance after meeting in 2012.
They tied the knot in a lavish Las Vegas ceremony in 2016, and, after splitting numerous times, they welcomed a child together in 2022.
Why was LaBeouf arrested?
Court documents state that a bar manager attempted to escort LaBeouf out of an establishment he was drinking at, during which the actor allegedly tried to hit him.
Then, after being removed, the actor allegedly punched one male who was helping the bar manager, before returning and punching a second man in the nose.
Bystanders called for authorities and managed to hold the star down on the ground until officers arrived.
LaBeouf was then taken to hospital, where he was subsequently discharged, arrested at the station, and charged with two counts of battery.
He was released later that day, with his next court hearing currently scheduled for March 19.
Authorities issue update
Following the arrest, the New Orleans Police Department issued an update.
“A man identified as 39-year-old Shia LaBeouf was reportedly causing a disturbance and becoming increasingly aggressive at a Royal Street business,” it read.
The statement added: “Once removed from the building, the victim reported being struck by LaBeouf who used his closed fists on the victim several times.”
It is not clear what circumstances led to the incident at this time.
