A young girl’s fortunes have changed after she was rejected first by her mother and then by 20 potential adoptive families.
The tale of Luca Trapanese’s path to adopting baby Alba has become really popular for a bunch of reasons, but the biggest one might be that social services usually don’t give custody to a single, gay man.

As reported by the BBC, 41-year-old Luca from Italy wrote a book where he shares his experience of becoming Alba’s dad, who has Down syndrome.
In a radio interview, Trapanese mentioned that his situation is unique because it “breaks stereotypes about fatherhood, religion, and family.”

In Italy, it has usually been really hard for gay couples and single parents to adopt kids.
“I was informed that I would only get a child who was sick, had a serious disability, or had behavior issues,” he shared with the BBC. “I was totally fine with that.”
Luca adopted Alba in 2017 when she was only 13 days old and had already been turned down by 20 families because of her health issues.
“She has brought me joy and a feeling of accomplishment. I am proud to be her dad,” he expressed.

Luca had worked in many care centers for people with special needs and always dreamed of being a dad. His love for helping others began when he was 14, after he lost his best friend to cancer.
He volunteered for groups connected to the Catholic church, often assisting those who were very sick or disabled.
That’s why, even though he didn’t have a partner, he chose to go ahead with adopting Alba, who now lives happily with her dad.

As reported by the BBC, Alba is a strong-willed little girl who can be a bit headstrong sometimes. She really enjoys playing and dancing, and she likes being around other people.
“It was the first time I ever held a baby. Before that, I was always really nervous. But when I held Alba for the first time, I realized I was ready to be her dad,” he shared. “I was filled with happiness. I felt like she was my daughter right from the start.”

It has been a couple of years since Luca and Alba became famous for their amazing relationship. But fans can still keep up with their lives on Luca’s Instagram, where he has over 320,000 followers.
The couple enjoys spending time together and they have a lot of fun every day.
Even though the pandemic has changed things for them, it’s really inspiring to see how much they love each other. They like to go outside, travel around Italy, paint, hang out with friends, and just enjoy being together.
