Former Neighbours Star Reveals What It Was Like Ditching Acting For Porn

Caitlin Stasey, formerly known for her role in “Neighbours,” has recently discussed her shift from mainstream acting to working on adult film sets.

While the transition from acting to directing is fairly common, Stasey’s move into the realm of adult entertainment as a director is notably unusual.

In a chat with the news.com.au podcast “I’ve Got News For You,” she revealed her initial project in adult cinema was inspired by the overtly sexualized nature of perfume advertisements.

“They’re always so sexy, and it always feels like sex is about to happen, when they’re sniffing each other’s necks and like, licking each other’s wrists,” she elaborated.

From this observation, she crafted her own creative concept: “So I kind of came up with the concept of a perfume commercial that then becomes a lesbian threesome.”

Afterglow, the company Stasey joined, champions a progressive, queer, and female-led agenda.

She described this collaborative environment warmly, noting the supportive atmosphere:

“It’s very ‘warm’ and the women are ‘very kind and patient’,” she commented, highlighting the supportive nature of her colleagues.

Stasey expressed her aspirations in filmmaking within the adult industry:

“I want to become a better director and learn how to make things that look beautiful and feel good so that one day I can learn how to make things that are ugly and don’t,” she added.

Her career has spanned various roles in productions like “Sleepover Club,” “Neighbours,” “Please Like Me,” and “Tomorrow When The War Began.”

She is also featured in the current Prime Video series “Class of ‘07,” which includes Emily Browning and Steph Tisdell.

Outside her acting and directing endeavors, Stasey launched herself.com, a feminist website displaying nude portraits of women who discuss topics such as women’s issues, relationships, sexuality, and reproductive health during their interviews.

Speaking with Women’s Agenda about her project, she emphasized its purpose:

“My main focus has always been, continues to be, solidarity – the only relief I feel when faced with an issue is to know I’m not alone, knowing that women, ones whom I may never meet, are out there rooting for each other and persevering.”

She conveyed her hope for the impact of her website on fostering community:

“Nothing warms my heart more than sisterhood, and it is my sincerest hope that women who view the site, participate or even simply hear about it are encouraged to band together with love and compassion.”

During her conversation with IGNFY’s host Andrew Bucklow, Stasey also recalled her participation in the memorable “I Still Call Australia Home” Qantas advertisement from her childhood.

“I was really lucky that was filmed before the evolution of the green screen … it was all practical back then.

“I went to India, I was in Africa, I went to China, I went all throughout Australia,” Stasey reminisced.

She reflected on those days with a light-hearted memory:

“It was truly one the most incredible experiences of my life, but I was like 10 years old.

“We were in these beautiful hotels, and at the time, if you’re like, ‘What was your favourite part?’, we’d all be like ‘oh, the pool in Cannes was sick!’

“So there’s a bit lost on us, but it was truly so special.”
