Some people think funerals should be sad, somber occasions, and rightfully so! There’s nothing harder than having to say goodbye to loved one. However, when we asked our readers what inappropriate songs they’d heard played at a funeral (or ones they think would be inappropriate), they couldn’t help but bring a little levity to the whole funeral scene.
“My dad loved Elvis Presley and we played ‘Burning Love’ at the crematorium,” Tracy shared.
I absolutely love people who have such a great sense of humor about such somber things. You go, Tracy!

When one commenter suggested ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ for a potential inappropriate funeral song, Carolyn rolled in with an amazing story.
“I saw a video where a woman had dancers at her funeral that danced to that song.”

“When I worked at a pub I always remember when we had a wake, the boss put a soundtrack on of different music and then at one point the song, ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year’ came on! Never saw him run so quick to turn it off!!” Sarah revealed.
Honestly, that would provide me with a much-needed laugh in the middle of all that sadness. I bet the family members were horrified, though.
Both, just in case
“[At] my dad’s funeral we had ‘Highway to H**l’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ but my dad choose the songs for his funeral,” Belle said.
I gotta respect a man who planned for both possibilities. Gotta cover all those afterlife bases, you know?
That’s one h**l of a throwback
Emma said: “My dad had Chumbawumba. ‘I Get Knocked Down.’ And they played the swear-y version it was hilarious!”
I haven’t thought about that song in years! That would make for an amazing funeral song. And a great song for the Shrek soundtrack, come to think of it.

“My dad’s favourite song ‘Hot, Hot, Hot’ 
at a cremation – when my mum was actually considering it …that made us all laugh in spite of the sadness though!” Denise shared of her late father.
It never occurred to me that cremations would have soundtracks, too. BRB, gotta prepare a Spotify playlist.
When I tell you the comments were FULL of people saying they’ve been to funerals with this song, I promise I am not exaggerating. Maggie shared:
“My kids played ‘Highway to H**l’ [by] ACDC at their dad’s funeral! My husband always joked around that he wanted it played! It was a little awkward for the older family members but those who knew him laughed and pulled out their phones with the light on! It was his last wish and way to make us smile and laugh.”
Get it, Sally!
Rhonda revealed what a fantastic sense of humor her aunt Sally had: “‘Lay Down Sally’…My aunt Sally requested that song be played at her funeral 
”
I just know aunt Sally was as fun in life as she was at her funeral!
I would have cringed so hard
“I went to a cremation recently…the intro music was ‘Like a Bat out of H**l’ and the finale music was ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’…I think the atmosphere could be described as awkward,” John said.
I guess the attendees weren’t as into the joke as their late friend was. I’m assuming that the dearly departed chose that playlist, otherwise I have a LOT of questions about that crematorium.
Baby, light that fire
“I once went to a funeral (cremation) for a guy who had a great sense of humour. He chose his own songs before he passed. They played ‘Come On Baby Light My Fire’ and then on the way out it was Queen, ‘Who Wants to Live Forever’. It was definitely memorable, that was over 20 years ago and I still remember it clearly,” Suzanne shared.
I love what a great sense of humor some people have about death. I am not at all chill about it, but this makes me want to try!

Margaret said: “My sister was an amputee and a song that came on at her funeral by mistake obviously, was ‘I Could Walk 500 Miles,’ I believe she was with us in spirit as this was her kind of sense of humour, the place was in stitches

This is wild
“I played ‘Shake Ya Tailfeather’ for my Dad’s funeral procession and his iPod music for his viewing,” Amanda revealed.
“Shake Ya Tailfeather” is a CRAZY song to choose for a funeral! Can you imagine trying to sit through a funeral with that song blasting from the speakers? I would not be able to keep it together.

Terrie said: “My husband wanted Gimme Three Steps by Lynyrd Skynyrd but they wouldn’t play it.”
Apparently, the pastor thought the song was “too provocative.” Imagine disrespecting someone’s last wish like that…couldn’t be me!
Queen, again
There’s too many good stories surrounding “Another One Bites the Dust” to not share them!
“‘Another One Bites the Dust.’ A story so funny that it has to be true! But we were setting up for my mom’s funeral at the church the church guys that were helping us set up had the music going and they were playing the local radio station[.] Well about 20 minutes before the funeral started this song came on the radio. I’ll live their Church workers stopped stare at each other and disbelief and embarrassment as they ran to the DJ station or whatever you call it to turn the radio off[.] We all thought it was hysterical and my mom would have loved it,” Keely shared.
This mom knew what life was about
Lyn said, “My mum had…‘Devil Woman’ followed by ‘What Becomes of the Broken Hearted’ and ‘They Are Coming to Take Me Away.’ She had dementia and a wicked sense of humor.”
Maintaining her sense of humor through dementia is such an amazing feat!
Green Day is an amazing choice
“My husband has requested “Good Riddance” by Green Day at his funeral. The lyrics are fine, just the title gets me,” Kat said.
Green Day is such a funny choice for a funeral. The vibe would shift SO much.
