Source close to Conor McGregor drops huge update on new date for Michael Chandler fight

A source close to Conor McGregor has dropped a huge update on the new date for the UFC star’s fight against Michael Chandler.

McGregor was due to return to action against Chandler on June 29 at UFC 303.

However, an injury forced him to pull out of their welterweight contest, with a rematch between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka for the UFC light-heavyweight title now headlining the Las Vegas card.

But McGregor vs. Chandler could be rescheduled for September.

That’s according to the Irishman’s friend and sparring partner Peter Queally, who revealed the ideal timeframe for the UFC bout.

“It seems like they will endeavour to make that fight in September time,” he told talkSPORT.

“Something like that maybe. That’s what I’m hearing. That’s what you can look forward to if they can make it happen.”

The ‘Notorious’ hasn’t fought since his crushing defeat to Dustin Poirier back in July 2021.

And Queally was ‘so disappointed’ for McGregor that he had to withdraw from UFC 303.

“I’m so disappointed. Obviously, I’m his friend,” he added.

“You didn’t want to see a guy experiencing anything bad who you are friends or close with.

“Just as a fan, I was looking forward to going out, enjoying the week in Vegas, going to the fight and taking in everything that is a Conor fight.”

Bellator fighter Queally continued: “There’s nothing like it on Earth. Anyone who hasn’t been to one, I’d save your pennies, go, and try to experience that.

“It’s pretty crazy. I’ve been lucky to have been at all of them. That’s what I was looking forward to and that’s what I’m most disappointed about.

“I just wanted to be involved again and experience that another time.”

The injury McGregor, 35, suffered hasn’t been disclosed as there is hope that he will return to the famed Octagon before the year’s end.
