President Donald Trump shared the news on social media Wednesday, saying Leavitt is stepping down to spend more time with her \u201cbeautiful young children and family.\u201d<\/p>\n

The announcement comes less than a month after the 29-year-old returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May.<\/p>\n

Leavitt, who at the age of 27 became the youngest White House press secretary in history, later shared a statement on social media.<\/p>\n

She said the role as White House press secretary has been \u201cthe honor and adventure of a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShe thanked Donald Trump for the opportunity to work in his administration and pointed out that her two children are the reason she is living. Balancing both being a mother and having a stressful job has been \u201crewarding yet challenging,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary \u2014 and that is why I have ultimately made the bittersweet decision to depart the White House and embark on a new chapter in my life,\u201d Leavitt wrote.<\/p>\n

While Donald Trump praised Karoline Leavitt for her work, saying that her decision to leave is one that he \u201ctotally understand and respect,\u201d it appears as if the president and the press secretary might have ended it on a bad note.<\/p>\n
