A man who was cut in half by a forklift has answered the one question everyone is always asking.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Loren Schauers, from Montana,\u00a0US, was working as a laborer when his life changed forever in September 2019.<\/p>\n

What began as an ordinary shift ended in a catastrophic accident that would cost him half his body and force him to make one of the most profound decisions a person can ever face.<\/p>\n

Against extraordinary odds, Loren survived, and has since built a life that has inspired hundreds of thousands of people around the world.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s opening up about the question that follows him everywhere he goes.<\/p>\n

Loren Schauers\u2019 tragic accident<\/h2>\n

In a horrific accident, while driving a forklift, he plummeted off the side of a bridge and fell over 50 feet to the ground below, resulting in the lower half of his body and one of his arms being severely crushed by the industrial truck.<\/p>\n

While Loren\u00a0managed to avoid death, he was forced to undergo a rare and complex procedure known as a hemicorporectomy.<\/p>\n

A hemicorporectomy, otherwise known as a trans-lumbar amputation, involves the lower half of the body being amputated, including the bony pelvis, pelvic contents, lower extremities, and external g**italia, per the\u00a0National Library of Medicine.<\/p>\n

Loren was also forced to amputate his arm, which was squashed in the accident.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0RTL 4, he said: \u201cThe doctors gave me a choice. The question was, do you want to live or die? Do you want to live with the situation now or die with the life you had?\u201d<\/p>\n

Although his condition has undoubtedly impacted him, Loren hasn\u2019t let it stop him from living his life.<\/p>\n

He and his wife, Sabia, document their journey on YouTube, where they have hundreds of thousands of susbscribers.<\/p>\n

In videos, the couple has opened up about their plans for building a future together.<\/p>\n

In one Q&A, Loren was asked: \u201cDo your friends still treat you the same way they used to before the accident? Are you happy, surprised, or disappointed by some of them?\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Loren admitted he was \u2018a little disappointed\u2019 by some of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cA couple of friends came out of the woodworks and have been really supportive, [others] totally reverted and have been reclusive,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it\u2019s whatever to me, you know, I got Sabia, that\u2019s all I need.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sabia agreed, adding: \u201cGoing through this together has definitely strengthened a lot of the aspects of our relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

The question everyone always asks<\/h2>\n

As their channel has grown in popularity, it\u2019s led to more intrusive questions about the couple\u2019s personal life following Loren\u2019s procedure \u2013 such as their s** life.<\/p>\n

Addressing this frequently asked question, Sabia told the\u00a0Daily Star: \u201cA question we get repeatedly is, \u2018How do we have s** and how do we become intimate?’\u201d<\/p>\n

Firmly, she continued: \u201cThat is a very personal question that we are never going to answer or allude to, as it\u2019s very disrespectful.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou wouldn\u2019t ask a random couple on the street how they have s** and just because our life circumstances are different, it doesn\u2019t give people the right to ask.\u201d<\/p>\n

Loren is often also asked how he uses the bathroom, which is a question he has happily answered.<\/p>\n

In a YouTube Q&A, he explained: \u201cA colostomy which is my colon pulled out of my body so I can poop.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I have bilateral nephrectomies, they\u2019re tubes that go into my kidneys that drain my kidneys into bags so, therefore, that is how I poop, pee, and fart.\u201d<\/p>\n

A colostomy is an opening in the large intestines or a surgical procedure that creates one, per\u00a0Johns Hopkins Medicine.<\/p>\n
