Millions around the\u00a0world\u00a0are watching on in horror as international tensions rise to levels not witnessed in decades.<\/p>\n

Late last month (February 28), the United States and Israel carried out coordinated airstrikes in Iran, reportedly with the aim of assassinating the country\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0later stated on Truth Social that the operation had been a success, confirming Khamenei\u2019s death. In response, Iran announced a 40-day mourning period and declared a seven-day national holiday.<\/p>\n

The conflict shows no sign of grinding to a halt, and has rapidly spread across the wider Middle East as multiple countries are drawn in.<\/p>\n

The number of people killed and injured continues to rise on all sides, with hundreds of civilians and soldiers reported dead or wounded across the region.<\/p>\n

Officials and experts warn that the situation could escalate further, increasing fears of a long and damaging regional war with serious economic and humanitarian impacts.<\/p>\n

How likely is WW3?<\/h2>\n

Many experts have shared their commentary on how close they believe we are to a third world war, but one world leader, Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine, believes it has already begun.<\/p>\n

As Putin continues his bombardment of Ukraine, President Zelensky spoke to the\u00a0BBC\u00a0claiming: \u201cI believe that Putin has already started it [WW3]. The question is how much territory he will be able to seize and how to stop him.<\/p>\n

\u201cRussia\u00a0wants to impose on the world a different way of\u00a0life\u00a0and change the lives people have chosen for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

A YouGov survey conducted across the\u00a0UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, shows that between 41 percent and 55 percent of people in each country think that another world war is likely to occur within the next five to ten years.<\/p>\n

And over in the US, 45 percent of Americans share this view.<\/p>\n

The study revealed that in the event that a world war did occur, the large majority (68-76 percent) expect that the conflict would involve the use of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n

It seems that if there were to be a nuclear war, survival would come majorly down to location.<\/p>\n

A country that\u2019s neutral\u00a0and out of the way would be ideal, but even then, nuclear weapons are destructive and far-reaching.<\/p>\n

Where would the safest places be?<\/h2>\n

As per\u00a0The Mirror, Switzlerand is the ultimate neutral nation.<\/p>\n

The country has not officially been involved in a global conflict for more than 200 years, and unofficially since the 16th century, which sounds pretty safe to me.<\/p>\n

Ireland is second in the longevity of its neutrality, a stance which lasted through long through World War 2.<\/p>\n

Austria is also a historically neutral nation, and has, over the years, enjoyed a consistently stable political landscape.<\/p>\n

Denmark is another country on the so-called \u2018safe list,\u2019 boasting around 20,000 highly trained and disciplined troops despite the size of the region.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0Newsweek<\/em>\u00a0map showcased the safest US states to live in during a nuclear attack.<\/p>\n

According to the research, in an average-case scenario, the \u2018safest states\u2019 would be Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, District of Columbia, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.<\/p>\n

But the map also demonstrated the most dangerous US states.<\/p>\n

The experts suggested that the US states most in danger of being nuclear targets were Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota \u2013 given that they are closer to the locations of US missile silos.<\/p>\n

In a nuclear conflict, an enemy\u2019s missile silos would likely be among the first targets, since eliminating them would prevent additional warheads from being launched in retaliation.<\/p>\n

Still, experts caution that \u2018no place is completely safe.\u2019<\/p>\n
