Anthony Loffredo said his \u201cevolution\u201d of becoming the \u201cBlack Alien\u201d finally made him feel like himself. But he also said the extreme modifications, including amputating healthy body parts, came with a price he never expected.<\/strong><\/p>\n

To millions online, Anthony Loffredo is instantly recognizable for the extreme body modifications that have transformed nearly every inch of his appearance.<\/p>\n

The French body modification enthusiast has skull implants, removed his ears and nostrils, sharpened and dyed his teeth purple, split his tongue, covered his body in black\u00a0tattoos\u00a0and undergone finger\u00a0amputations, all in pursuit of the look he has spent years creating.<\/p>\n

The dramatic transformation earned him the nickname \u201cBlack Alien,\u201d but 38-year-old Loffredo has long insisted the project isn\u2019t about shocking people.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something that fascinates me: the extraterrestrial world. It\u2019s something that really captivates me,\u201d he told\u00a0El Periodico, adding that his metamorphosis into an otherworldly being has helped him evolve.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, this isn\u2019t mutilation,\u201d he said. \u201cFor me, it\u2019s evolution. It\u2019s my evolution. But it\u2019s the same old fight with society.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople always tell me, \u2018You need a psychiatrist,\u2019 \u2018You have a problem in your head.\u2019 Always, always,\u201d he said, adding that he feels \u201cmore normal than the people who talk about it,\u201d he told the Barcelona-based paper.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t need a\u00a0psychiatrist. Yes, it\u2019s normal \u2013 it\u2019s something very personal. People can\u2019t understand me, really. It\u2019s very, very delicate. Very, very deep. People can\u2019t understand me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Transformation isn\u2019t over<\/h2>\n

Although Loffredo has already undergone some of the most extreme body modifications ever documented, he says he hasn\u2019t reached his goal.<\/p>\n

One procedure he has discussed publicly is the possibility of amputating one of his legs, describing it as one of the most difficult decisions he has considered.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s something really hard because I have a\u00a0healthy\u00a0leg, and an amputation is something big,\u201d he said, explaining he\u2019s traveled abroad for some of the more controversial modifications.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a very closed world. If I go to a doctor at the hospital and tell him I want to cut off my fingers, he\u2019s going to tell me: \u2018You\u2019re crazy, go to a psychiatric hospital,\u201d he said in his interview with El Periodico. \u201cFor me it\u2019s not mutilation. For me it\u2019s something aesthetic. Because in the end, I feel better, you know?\u201d<\/p>\n

Cost of becoming the \u2018Black Alien\u2019<\/h2>\n

The biggest challenge, however, has been finding work.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t find a job,\u201d Loffredo said on the\u00a0Club 113\u00a0podcast. \u201cThere\u2019s lots of negative stuff. It could be positive because you feel better, but you have to know there\u2019s also a dark side.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before starting his transformation in his mid-20s, Loffredo worked as a nightclub security guard. Today, he says employers often judge him before they get to know him.<\/p>\n
